Gilded Savoy Armor

🇬🇧 Part of a boy's armor decorated with engraved and gilded sun burst on a bronze background. This breastplate is attributed to the armorer Orazio Calino from Brescia, active for the Savoy Family from 1593 to 1623. A similar armor appears in a late-17th-century engraving depicting Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy (1588 - 1624). The decoration follows the fashion of the time, which creates the typical ornaments of clothes and fabrics on steel. . #museostibbert #stibbert #mystibbert #stibbertmuseum #frederickstibbert #visitflorence #igersfirenze #mostrefirenze #art #ig_italy #ig_florence #yallerstoscana #visittuscany #thebestmuseum #armsandarmor #armor #cuirasser #harness #italianart #italianarmor #steel

This bright gold armor must've been blinding to enemies on the battlefield. This fine detailing represents the armory fashion of the time - replicating jacquards and woven fabric patterns on metal armor. It's a cool concept worth examining in further detail. Maybe we'll use it for Spring 20.
